Types of Online NTN

In Pakistan, there are three primary types of online NTN, each catering to different entities and purposes:

  1. Personal NTN:
    • FBR issues Personal NTN based on the CNIC of the individual. It is applicable to both salaried individuals and businesspersons. Personal NTN can be verified through FBR’s online NTN verification system. Additionally, upon registering for NTN, taxpayers may incorporate their Sole Proprietor businesses into their FBR profiles separately.
  2. Association of Individuals (AOP) / Partnership:
    • This type of online NTN is designated for associations of individuals, typically partnerships comprising a minimum of two partners. Online NTN verification for AOPs or partnerships can be conducted through the NTN Inquiry option on the FBR portal.
  3. Company’s NTN:
    • Issued to companies, Company’s NTN can be verified on the FBR portal by entering the Incorporation or Company Registration Number issued by the Securities and Exchange Commission of Pakistan (SECP) during the company’s registration process.

Responsibilities of NTN Holders:

NTN holders bear the primary responsibility of filing their annual income tax returns within stipulated deadlines to the Federal Board of Revenue. For individuals with NTN, the deadline for filing returns is 30th September each year. However, for companies, the deadline varies depending on the company’s fiscal year-end, falling either at the end of September or December.

In conclusion, online NTN verification offers a streamlined process for individuals and businesses in Pakistan to access crucial tax-related information. By adhering to their responsibilities and utilizing the online resources provided by the FBR, taxpayers can ensure compliance with tax regulations and contribute to the country’s fiscal ecosystem.
